Participate in the 10 Billion Acre Grand Arbors

Through this page, you can reserve a future tree planting in the Grand Arbors for yourself or a loved one in memoriam.  Grand Arbors and the Seedling Banks, when built, will bear names of registered reservations, each location will be registered in the names of donors.

The Numbers: 250 year plan.

The following are present plans for the numbers, subject to change without prior notice.  10 Billion Acres is likely one of the largest projects ever undertaken by Humanity, yet it offers a simplicity by design that increases dramatically the likelihood of success, which is fortunate, since Humanity's long range survival may hang in the balance of its success.  All figures are rounded and approximate, and subject to change without any prior notice.

There are projected to eventually be as many as 100 Grand Arbors of about 100 million acres each.  Inside each Arbor will roughly be as many as 20 billion trees, broken into 200 tree-acres or "Acreage Groves", each covering about one acre, 640 Acreage Groves per square mile. Each Arbor will possess roughly 100 million such Acreage Groves each with from 100 to 200 trees planted on it.  All told, globally, there could be as many 10 Billion Acreage Groves and as many as 2 trillion trees planted.

This covers an awful lot of ground and an awful lot of effort. However, it is necessary if Humanity is to survive.

Each seedling farm bank could produce as many as about 10,000 new saplings per week in full production, less in partial production or ramp up. The presently planned 20,000 seedling banks could produce as much as a total of 200 million new trees per week in full production, once built.   The total project assuming net figures would continue for about 200 years, resulting in a net of 10 billion acres replanted.

We expect during the same period, with full conservation in force, that the Earth will still experience a net loss of 1.5 Billion Acres from civilization, which will insure that the original 'cut down(s)' of 8.5 Billion acres from 1492 to 2012 by civilization would be entirely reversed.  From then on, additional plantings would represent a net positive gain of new tree growth aimed at supporting population added to the human communities since 1492. We would expect to have to continue for an additional 50 years.

The Earth's Atmosphere should begin to improve within 10-15 years after starting, and will steadily improve until it equalizes with 1492 225 years after we commence planting.  This being an interglacial period, we would expect to see global cooling commencing in about 500 years.  Before then, Humanity will have to undertake special housing advances so as to insure humanity survives the expansion of the ice-cap to cover as far south as the mid Mississippi Delta.  Hence, based on present estimates, all meaningful tree planting must be done from Mid-latitude USA to the Equatorial Regions in a belt around the globe, and likewise in the Southern Hemispheres, so as to insure that the Grand Arbors also survive the impending residual ice age, so as to preserve the atmosphere and oxygenation during the Global Cooling on and after the year 2510.

The GLOBAL TREE LIFE TRUST (GTLT).

The Global Tree Life Trust is an effort to bank sufficient funds over time as to meet the production goals of the 250 year plan.

Donors will be afforded a wide variety of options.  Donors are defined as a) "supporting governments", b) "supporting organizations", c) "supporting corporate interests", d) "supporting individual trusts", e) "supporting families" and f) "supporting individuals" or g) "random donations".

We estimate that the cost over the course of the program, per tree, is as follows.

Producing 1 Acorn/Seed:        $.10

Bank Planting 1 Acorn/Seed and growing a seedling:  $.50

Relocation and planting of a Sapling: $1.00

Maintaining a Sapling, per year, for the first 10 years: $1.00 until self-sustainability is attained.

Total cost per tree: $11.60.  Total number of Trees: 2 Trillion.  Total Cost: $23.20 Trillion.  Assuming a 25% overhead, it is estimated that $30 trillion should be raised.  Subdivided evenly across 250 years, global contributions averaging $120 Billion per year are targeted.

Broken down into an average population of 6.5 billion human beings on Planet Earth, the burden per person per year is roughly $18.25 over time.

Present plans would be to distribute the costs to nations in proportion to their population burdens.  The USA would have an annual burden of $5.11 Billion, a negligible amount when compared with its $700 billion annual military budget.  China and India would have the largest contributions in total dollar figures due to their much larger populations.

In the early stages, the 10 Billion Acres project is soliciting Private Donors to build up enough momentum so as to organize international treaties to support the Grand Arbors and each nation's participation on a per capita basis of $18.25 and at whatever levels as economic change mitigates this figure to in the future.

You can make a difference.  Below are First year(s) private donation amounts for naming components of the final Grand Arbors, you and your organization, business or family can make to help us attain sufficient momentum to accomplish building the Tree Life Trust.

Funds would be used to cover our costs for starting to build the early additional seedling farm banks, and to locate and start planting seeds, as well as to publicize our efforts more broadly and to pay for personnel and other overhead.  To date, all services have been provided by personnel on a voluntary basis, however to get personnel to work full time requires paying them salaries.

A public registry on this website will be maintained of all donations, with full disclosure unless the donation is made anonymously, whereby said donations will be listed as "contributed by Anonymous in the amount of..." but in accordance with public privacy laws.

All annual proceeds usage will also be published in a public registry on this website for all to view, as allowed by law.

To arrange to support 10 Billion Acres, call 908-272-0016 (the ACSA) and ask for the 10 Billion Acres Supervisor. Those wishing to volunteer their services or apply for jobs, may do likewise.

The ACSA, who maintains the 10 Billion Acres organization, possesses IRS approval as a private foundation under IRC 501(c)3.  Proof of our status is available by mail, by phoning in or email us.  We were founded in the 1970's to represent the interests of computer science programmers and hardware developers, and became a public-private foundation and charity in 1993.  We have maintained a purist approach to public advocacy for nearly 35 years and held 501(c)3 stature before the IRS for 15 years.  Dr. Edward Engelbart is senior Chair, and Dr. Jack A. Shulman is co-Chair of the Association.  Both have received no compensation for their positions.

Please note that the ACSA provides no warranty for the operation of 10 Billion Acres, which it expects to become a separate and unconnected organization at some point in the future as it becomes financially self-sufficient and its operations self sustaining.
